Kerala Courtyard Rich / Statement Wellness Painting Theme

Kerala Courtyard Rich pairs Gush Mango (OR002B) on the main walls with a Raffles Mandarin Mirage limewash feature wall — a warm, high-contrast tropical spice scheme that feels earthy, breezy. It suits the living room or veranda room, and works with dark timber, cane, brass, greenery. Its warm undertone glows under 3000K warm white in the evening; under 5000K daylight bulbs it reads cleaner and less golden. This theme draws on the nalukettu courtyard house of Kerala, developed within the region's tropical climate and Hindu architectural treatises.

Design history

History and meaning

This theme draws on the nalukettu courtyard house of Kerala, developed within the region's tropical climate and Hindu architectural treatises. The nalukettu, built from the fourteenth century onward and refined under the matrilineal Nair and Namboothiri communities, organises four ranges of timber rooms around a central open courtyard that supports ventilation, light and ritual life. Carved timber, laterite and brass detail define the type. The aesthetic favours dark timber, cane, brass and greenery within a tropical-spice palette, so a living room reads as earthy and breezy, rooted in a genuine South Indian vernacular.

What it represents: It represents earthy, breezy character through a tropical spice palette and the recognisable visual language of Kerala Courtyard.

Why it works here: Here, the smooth Gush walls and softly textured Raffles limewash give dark timber, cane, brass, greenery a coherent backdrop, making the theme practical for the home.
