Memphis Soft / Airy Wellness Painting Theme

Memphis Soft pairs Gush All Good Things (WH000A) on the main walls with a Raffles Azure Sky limewash feature wall — a mixed, high-contrast playful colour scheme that feels bold, expressive. It suits the studio or family room, and works with primary accents, terrazzo, lacquer. Its mixed undertone shifts with the light, so 4000K neutral white keeps both colours honest. Memphis began in Milan in 1980-81 when Ettore Sottsass gathered a group of designers who wanted objects to feel expressive, playful and emotional rather than restrained and function-first.

Design history

History and meaning

Memphis began in Milan in 1980-81 when Ettore Sottsass gathered a group of designers who wanted objects to feel expressive, playful and emotional rather than restrained and function-first. The group showed its first collection in Milan in September 1981 and drew immediate international attention; it remained active through much of the 1980s. The name came from a Bob Dylan song played at an early meeting, and also evoked Memphis, Tennessee, and the ancient Egyptian capital. Memphis is recognised by bright, sometimes clashing colours, circles, triangles and zigzags, bold patterns and unexpected mixes of materials, drawing on Pop Art and Art Deco.

What it represents: It represents an expressive challenge to restrained, function-first design through bright, sometimes clashing colours, circles, triangles, zigzags and unexpected materials, drawing on Pop Art and Art Deco.

Why it works here: Here, the official Gush and Raffles colours support the playful geometry while terrazzo and lacquer cues keep the energy deliberate and liveable.

How it feels at home

All Good Things on the main walls keeps the Memphis scheme lighter, airier and practical for studio / family room. Azure Sky as the Raffles R.LIMEWASH feature wall gives a subtle mineral layer that fits primary accents, terrazzo, lacquer. The balanced undertone keeps the theme easy to live with, while the limewashed focal wall gives the room a gentle design anchor.

Soft or Rich

How Memphis Soft differs from its twin

Memphis Soft uses Gush All Good Things with Raffles Azure Sky (high contrast, bold, expressive). Its Rich twin swaps to Gush Shortcake with Raffles Mandarin Mirage (high contrast, bold, expressive). Pick Soft for a lighter, more open room, smaller HDB spaces or rooms with limited daylight; pick Rich if you want the wall to anchor the room.
