Siheyuan Courtyard Soft / Airy Wellness Painting Theme

Siheyuan Courtyard Soft pairs Gush Tangyuan (WH007A) on the main walls with a Raffles Champange Cream limewash feature wall — a warm, high-contrast red and lacquer scheme that feels ceremonial, confident. It suits the dining room or entryway, and works with dark wood, lacquer, aged brass. Its warm undertone glows under 3000K warm white in the evening; under 5000K daylight bulbs it reads cleaner and less golden. This theme draws on the Chinese siheyuan, the courtyard house organised around a sheltered central open space, used in Beijing and across north China for centuries and codified during the Ming and Qing dynasties.

Design history

History and meaning

This theme draws on the Chinese siheyuan, the courtyard house organised around a sheltered central open space, used in Beijing and across north China for centuries and codified during the Ming and Qing dynasties. Its axial, symmetrical plan reflected Confucian order, with rooms arranged by season and hierarchy around the courtyard. Timber-frame construction, grey brick and lacquered detail defined the vernacular. The theme brings dark wood, lacquer and aged brass into a red-and-lacquer palette, so a living room reads as ceremonial and confident, carrying the structure and material gravity of the courtyard house into a contemporary setting.

What it represents: It represents ceremonial, confident character through a red and lacquer palette and the recognisable visual language of Siheyuan Courtyard.

Why it works here: Here, the smooth Gush walls and softly textured Raffles limewash give dark wood, lacquer, aged brass a coherent backdrop, making the theme practical for the home.

Colour wellness

How it feels at home

Tangyuan on the main walls keeps the Siheyuan Courtyard scheme lighter, airier and practical for dining / entry. Champange Cream as the Raffles R.LIMEWASH feature wall gives a subtle mineral layer that fits dark wood, lacquer, aged brass. The warm undertone makes the room feel settled and welcoming, while the limewashed focal wall adds sun-baked texture without making the home feel heavy.

Colours under different light

From warm evening to clear daylight

3000K · Warm white

Warmer and softer; creams, reds and timber undertones become more noticeable.

4000K · Neutral white

The most balanced view of the pairing, with warm and cool notes held evenly.

5000K · Daylight white

Cooler and clearer; blue, green and mineral-grey notes read more distinctly.

Soft or Rich

How Siheyuan Courtyard Soft differs from its twin

Siheyuan Courtyard Soft uses Gush Tangyuan with Raffles Champange Cream (high contrast, ceremonial, confident). Its Rich twin swaps to Gush Retriever with Raffles Mocha Silk (high contrast, ceremonial, confident). Pick Soft for a lighter, more open room, smaller HDB spaces or rooms with limited daylight; pick Rich if you want the wall to anchor the room.
