Chettinad Heritage Soft / Airy Wellness Painting Theme

Chettinad Heritage Soft pairs Gush Pillowtalk (WH006A) on the main walls with a Raffles Soft Linen limewash feature wall — a warm, high-contrast terracotta scheme that feels lively, grounded. It suits the dining room or feature lounge, and works with terracotta tile, walnut, aged brass. Its warm undertone glows under 3000K warm white in the evening; under 5000K daylight bulbs it reads cleaner and less golden. This theme draws on the nineteenth- and early-twentieth-century mansions of the Chettiar merchant communities of Tamil Nadu's Chettinad region.

Design history

History and meaning

This theme draws on the nineteenth- and early-twentieth-century mansions of the Chettiar merchant communities of Tamil Nadu's Chettinad region. Built with fortunes from trade across Southeast Asia, these rambling courtyard houses combined teak and Burmese hardwoods, Athangudi patterned tiles, Belgian glass and carved stone in lavish, East-meets-West interiors. The Chettiar house culture valued scale, craftsmanship and imported material. The aesthetic favours terracotta tile, walnut and aged brass within a terracotta palette, so a living room reads as lively and grounded, rooted in a genuine Tamil mercantile tradition rather than a generic heritage look.

What it represents: It represents lively, grounded character through a terracotta palette and the recognisable visual language of Chettinad Heritage.

Why it works here: Here, the smooth Gush walls and softly textured Raffles limewash give terracotta tile, walnut, aged brass a coherent backdrop, making the theme practical for the home.

Colour wellness

How it feels at home

Pillowtalk on the main walls keeps the Chettinad Heritage scheme lighter, airier and practical for dining / feature lounge. Soft Linen as the Raffles R.LIMEWASH feature wall gives a subtle mineral layer that fits terracotta tile, walnut, aged brass. The warm undertone makes the room feel settled and welcoming, while the limewashed focal wall adds sun-baked texture without making the home feel heavy.

Colours under different light

From warm evening to clear daylight

Warmer and softer; creams, reds and timber undertones become more noticeable.

4000K · Neutral white

The most balanced view of the pairing, with warm and cool notes held evenly.

5000K · Daylight white

Cooler and clearer; blue, green and mineral-grey notes read more distinctly.

Soft or Rich

How Chettinad Heritage Soft differs from its twin

Chettinad Heritage Soft uses Gush Pillowtalk with Raffles Soft Linen (high contrast, lively, grounded).
