Egyptian Revival Soft / Airy Wellness Painting Theme

Egyptian Revival Soft pairs Gush Bellylaugh (PI009A) on the main walls with a Raffles Velvet Burg limewash feature wall — a warm, high-contrast burgundy and gold scheme that feels dramatic, opulent. It suits the dining room or formal room, and works with gold metal, velvet, marble. Its warm undertone glows under 3000K warm white in the evening; under 5000K daylight bulbs it reads cleaner and less golden. Egyptian Revival appeared in several waves, notably after Napoleon Bonaparte's 1798 campaign in Egypt and the publication of the Description de l'Egypte, and again after the 1922 discovery of Tutankhamun's tomb by Howard Carter.

Design history

History and meaning

Egyptian Revival appeared in several waves, notably after Napoleon Bonaparte's 1798 campaign in Egypt and the publication of the Description de l'Egypte, and again after the 1922 discovery of Tutankhamun's tomb by Howard Carter. The style reinterpreted ancient Egyptian motifs — lotus and papyrus columns, scarabs, obelisks and hieroglyphic pattern — for modern Western architecture and interiors, seen in works from nineteenth-century cinemas to Art Deco interiors of the 1920s. The aesthetic favours gold metal, velvet and marble within a burgundy-and-gold palette, so a living room reads as dramatic and opulent, drawing on archaeological excitement.

What it represents: It represents dramatic, opulent character through a burgundy and gold palette and the recognisable visual language of Egyptian Revival.

Why it works here: Here, the smooth Gush walls and softly textured Raffles limewash give gold metal, velvet, marble a coherent backdrop, making the theme practical for the home.

How it feels at home

Bellylaugh on the main walls keeps the Egyptian Revival scheme lighter, airier and practical for dining / formal room. Velvet Burg as the Raffles R.LIMEWASH feature wall gives a subtle mineral layer that fits gold metal, velvet, marble. The softened colour temperature adds warmth and emotional comfort, while the limewashed focal wall keeps the palette mature instead of overly sweet.

Colours under different light

From warm evening to clear daylight

3000K · Warm white

Warmer and softer; creams, reds and timber undertones become more noticeable.

4000K · Neutral white

The most balanced view of the pairing, with warm and cool notes held evenly.

5000K · Daylight white

Cooler and clearer; blue, green and mineral-grey notes read more distinctly.

Soft or Rich

How Egyptian Revival Soft differs from its twin

Egyptian Revival Soft uses Gush Bellylaugh with Raffles Velvet Burg (high contrast, dramatic, opulent). Its Rich twin swaps to Gush Date Night with Raffles Burgundy Bazaar (high contrast, dramatic, opulent). Pick Soft for a lighter, more open room, smaller HDB spaces or rooms with limited daylight; pick Rich if you want the wall to anchor the room.
