Ming Scholar Soft / Airy Wellness Painting Theme

Ming Scholar Soft pairs Gush Siew Dai (WH012A) on the main walls with a Raffles Steel Blue limewash feature wall — a warm, high-contrast red and lacquer scheme that feels ceremonial, confident. It suits the dining room or entryway, and works with dark wood, lacquer, aged brass. Its warm undertone glows under 3000K warm white in the evening; under 5000K daylight bulbs it reads cleaner and less golden. This theme references Ming-dynasty China (1368-1644), and in particular the scholar's study and its hardwood furniture, which reached peaks of balanced proportion and restrained joinery.

Design history

History and meaning

This theme references Ming-dynasty China (1368-1644), and in particular the scholar's study and its hardwood furniture, which reached peaks of balanced proportion and restrained joinery. Ming cabinetmakers working in huanghuali and other fine hardwoods produced the chairs, tables and cabinets that defined Chinese classical furniture and were later catalogued by scholars such as Wang Shixiang. The aesthetic valued honest material, clear structure and quiet authority. The theme brings dark wood, lacquer and aged brass into a red-and-lacquer palette, so a living room reads as ceremonial and confident, carrying the scholar-room's composure into a contemporary setting.

What it represents: It represents ceremonial, confident character through a red and lacquer palette and the recognisable visual language of Ming Scholar.

Why it works here: Here, the smooth Gush walls and softly textured Raffles limewash give dark wood, lacquer, aged brass a coherent backdrop, making the theme practical for the home.

How it feels at home

Siew Dai on the main walls keeps the Ming Scholar scheme lighter, airier and practical for dining / entry. Steel Blue as the Raffles R.LIMEWASH feature wall gives a subtle mineral layer that fits dark wood, lacquer, aged brass. The warm undertone makes the room feel settled and welcoming, while the limewashed focal wall adds sun-baked texture without making the home feel heavy.
