New York Loft Rich / Statement Wellness Painting Theme

New York Loft Rich pairs Gush Stellar (XR056B) on the main walls with a Raffles Dark Sky limewash feature wall — a cool, high-contrast urban grey scheme that feels raw, urban. It suits the living room or study, and works with concrete, steel, smoked glass. Its cool undertone stays crisp under 4000K–5000K light; very warm 2700K–3000K bulbs can make Dark Sky look greyer. New York loft style grew from artists' conversion of former industrial floors in districts such as SoHo during the 1960s and 1970s, when painters and sculptors occupied cast-iron-fronted warehouses for cheap, light studio space.

Design history

History and meaning

New York loft style grew from artists' conversion of former industrial floors in districts such as SoHo during the 1960s and 1970s, when painters and sculptors occupied cast-iron-fronted warehouses for cheap, light studio space. The 1971 artist-in-residence zoning laws legitimised living in lofts, and the raw concrete columns, large factory windows and open plans of those spaces became a desirable residential type. The aesthetic favours concrete, steel and smoked glass within an urban-grey palette, so a living room reads as raw and urban, where the industrial loft defines a spacious, honest room.

What it represents: It represents raw, urban character through a urban grey palette and the recognisable visual language of New York Loft.

Why it works here: Here, the smooth Gush walls and softly textured Raffles limewash give concrete, steel, smoked glass a coherent backdrop, making the theme practical for the home.

Colour wellness

How it feels at home

Stellar on the main walls keeps the New York Loft scheme richer, more anchored and practical for living / study. Dark Sky as the Raffles R.LIMEWASH feature wall gives a subtle mineral layer that fits concrete, steel, smoked glass. The cool cast helps reduce visual heat and keeps daylight feeling clear, while the limewashed focal wall adds calm depth without visual clutter.

The most balanced view of the pairing, with warm and cool notes held evenly.

5000K · Daylight white

Cooler and clearer; blue, green and mineral-grey notes read more distinctly.
