Paint Brand Warranty in Singapore: What Each Brand Actually Covers (2026)

Paint product warranties and painter workmanship warranties are two different things — and both have fine print. Here is what each brand publishes and what we cover on top.

Two different warranties — don't confuse them

  1. Product warranty from the paint manufacturer — covers the paint film if applied per spec.
  2. Workmanship warranty from the painter — covers application defects.

A "5-year warranty" headline could refer to either. Always ask which.

The five most common warranty voiders

Pico X Health observations from disputed jobs we were called in to remediate, 2024–2026:

  1. Painting over an active leak. Voids almost every product warranty automatically.
  2. Wrong tinting base. If a dark colour was tinted into a Base 1 instead of Base 4, the manufacturer will not honour film failure.
  3. Mixing brands. A Nippon primer under a Dulux topcoat is unsupported by either.
  4. Out-of-spec conditions. Painting in >85% RH or below the minimum surface temperature on the TDS.
  5. Skipping the manufacturer primer. Especially common when the painter "saves cost" with a generic primer.

How to actually claim a warranty

  1. Keep the original product can (with batch number) for at least one year.
  2. Keep the dealer invoice with SKU code.
  3. Keep dated photos of the prepared substrate before painting.
  4. File the claim through the dealer that sold the paint — not through the painter.

Our take

For most Singapore homeowners, the painter's workmanship warranty matters more in practice than the manufacturer's product warranty, because film failures attributable solely to the paint (with no application or substrate issue) are rare. Choose a painter with a written workmanship warranty first; choose a brand with a credible product warranty programme second. See ours →
